Sports official of Saharanpur, Animesh Saxena, excused the claims, naming them as ‘outlandish’.

“The food served to players here is of good quality. Food, including rice, ‘dal’ and ‘sabji’ were cooked in huge vessels in a customary block stove close to the pool,” he said.

A player at the camp said, “From the vessel, cooked rice was taken out in a big plate and was put on the latrine floor close to its entryway. Close to the rice plate, were extra ‘pooris’ on a piece of paper on the floor. The rice was then served to the players for lunch.”

A couple of players raised the matter before an arena official. The authority informed the games official, Animesh Saxena, who ‘reproved’ the cooks.

“There was a lack of room and the food was prepared close to the arena pool,” the games official said.
